“Repeat it” – Variations, Echo and Repetition
With the program “Repeat it”, the trio Dorothee Oberlinger (recorder), Franziska Hölscher (violin) and Florian Birsak (harpsichord) invites the audience on a fascinating musical journey: from early Italian and German Baroque music to the avant-garde of the 20th century.
At the center are musical forms that play with repetition, variation, and echo. Works by Salomone Rossi and Dario Castello open the evening with resonant Baroque dialogues, while the “bizzarrie” of Nicola Matteis surprise with their unexpected twists. Telemann’s intricate trio sonatas and Purcell’s characteristic grounds continue this exploration of repetition. Soloistic highlights include Biber, with his virtuosic Baroque expressivity, Ligeti, with a motoric whirlwind of sound, and Berio, with radical sonic experimentation. The program concludes with Vivaldi’s “La Follia” – a masterpiece of Baroque variation art.
The result is a program full of energy, contrasts, and surprises, in which early music and modernism enter into a vivid dialogue. Three outstanding soloists reveal how, across centuries, composers have continually drawn inspiration from repetition – sometimes playful, sometimes virtuosic, sometimes bold.
